Racket Weight Classification
Badminton rackets are classified by weight using a U system. The U number goes up as the actual weight goes down.
| Class | Weight | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| 3U | 85-89g | Professional doubles players, maximum power |
| 4U | 80-84g | Most popular class, balanced power and speed |
| 5U | 75-79g | Singles specialists, fast swings |
| 6U | 70-74g | Ultra-light, beginners, juniors |
What Weight Actually Means
Weight is measured as the total racket weight without strings and grip. Adding strings (approximately 5-6g) and a grip (3-5g) adds roughly 10g to the final playing weight.
4U: The Sweet Spot
The 4U class is the best-selling weight worldwide because it offers the most balanced playing experience:
- Enough weight for power on hard smashes
- Light enough for quick net play and drives
- Suitable for both singles and doubles
- Works for intermediate to advanced players
5U: Speed First
The 5U class has grown in popularity as singles players seek faster swings:
- Easier to swing fast with less effort
- Fatigue reduction during long rallies
- Smaller sweet spot — requires precision
- Better for technical singles players
OEM Weight Customization
One of our most common OEM requests is fine-tuning the exact weight within a class. We can target specific weights like 82g (4U) or 77g (5U) by adjusting:
- Carbon fiber layup thickness
- Shaft wall thickness
- Frame cross-section dimensions
- Optional foam filling
Our QC process guarantees weight tolerance within +/-1g for premium OEM orders.
